It is possible to auto-generate the inventory number for assets. First you have to insert the range start and range end. Additionally you can set the digit count for the inventory number. Then you enter the number prefix and number suffix.

For control you will see a preview and the last generated inventory number.

With the button Reset counter you are able to reset the generator for asset inventory numbers. All future inventory numbers start at the range start. So you will see a dialog to confirm your choice.
